God seeks a personal relationship based on love with all people. The apostle John knew what it meant to have this kind of relationship with God. He wrote, “Our fellowship is with the Father and with his son, Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3). God initiates that relationship with us through his Word, the Bible. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Let us avail ourselves of God’s means of grace … his Word and sacrament … so that we may “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), ever deepening our relationship with him.
