Zion participates in Operation Warm Heart (OWH), a program of the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, providing temporary shelter in our fellowship hall for homeless men, women, and children during the colder months of the year.
We host our guests on Wednesday evenings from December 2, 2015 through March 30, 2016. Our guests arrive at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, and depart at 7:30 am on Thursday. We look for volunteers to:
- cook meals for Wednesday evenings,
- greet and serve our guests on Wednesday evenings,
- help clean up after meals,
- stay the night with our guests, and
- prepare breakfast on Thursday mornings.
If you would like to volunteer or get more information, please contact Pastor or Kathleen Silva, or call the parish office at 732-388-1815. A sign-up sheet is also available in the narthex.
In the narthex, you will also find a 3-drawer organizer where you can donate much needed travel/sample sized items for our homeless neighbors:
Shampoo Conditioner Body Wash or Soap Hand Lotion Lip balm |
Toothpaste Floss Toothbrushes Deodorant (regular or travel sized) |
Additionally, donations of feminine hygiene products as well as “Hot Hands” chemical warmer packets would be welcome, and there will be a receptacle for them as well.
Thank you for helping the homeless in our community!
