Updated: HELPING THE HOMELESS

ANNOUNCING A GREAT AND WONDERFUL MINISTRY HAPPENING AT ZION.

The Congregational Council met on Thursday evening and we were joined by a representative from the “Elizabeth Coalition to house the Homeless.” Linda, the representative from the coalition, spoke with us about the possibility of working with their winter program, “Operation Warm Heart” to house the homeless during the coldest months of the year.

The council voted unanimously to go ahead with the program. We will be housing the homeless in the Social Hall of the church every other Wednesday starting on December 25 through March 31. The homeless will arrive at 6pm on Wednesday and they will stay over until 7:30am on Thursday.

A supervisor from Operation Warm Heart will stay the night with them, and, OWH will provide cots and blankets. OWH asks that we provide a cooked meal for them for dinner on the nights that they are at Zion.

We will be asking the congregation for volunteers to cook for them when they are at our church. OWH also asks that a representative from the congregation be present until about 10pm.

December 25, one of our long time devoted members, Patrick Sawler will be there.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to help provide warm meals, please contact the church office (732) 388-1815.
